Textbook

We will use my own lecture note.

Topics

The course will cover applications of integration, infinite series. Then we will cover the beginning of multivariable analysis.

1) Definite Integral (3 weeks)

Area, Newton-Leibniz formula, Riemann integral, numerical calculation.

2) Indefinite Integral (3 weeks)

Fundamental theorem of calculus, antiderivative, properties of integration, integration of rational function.

3) Topics in integration (3 weeks)

Improper integral, application to geometry, polar coordinate, application to physics.

4) Infinite Series (4 weeks)

Series of numbers, comparison test, absolute and conditional convergence, power series, Fourier series.

Homework

No hard copies of the homework will be distributed. Please check my web page for the latest assignments. Usually you have one week to do the homework. The answer will be provided after the homework is collected. *Absolutely no late homework will be accepted*.

Exam and Grade

There will be one midterm and one final exam, accounting for 30% and 50% respectively of the final grade. The homework is counted as 20% of the final grade.

As my usual practice, I try to make the homework as light as possible. However, doing homework alone is definitely not sufficient for really understanding the subject. You should do as many additional problems as possible.
