Teaching Approach

Lectures: focus on illustrating the concepts of the course content.

Tutorials: focus on examples and problem solving skills.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students should know the following:

1. How to solve first order conservation equations;

2. How to solve second order wave equations;

3. How to use separation of variables to solve PDEs;

4. How to use Fourier analysis to do PDE analysis;

Assessment Scheme  

There will be 8-10 homework assignments (HW1)and a final exam. The final grade is determined by homeworks (40%) + final  exam (60%)
